The angel's nest for a newborn baby
An angel's nest is a little cocoon that provides warmth and comfort for your baby. Provided, of course, that you choose the right size and use it correctly.
What is an angel's nest?
It's a kind of sleeping bag with a square shape and a pointed hood that covers the whole body, including the arms. You can use it from birth, as a kind of modern swaddle.
It can be used up to 3 or 4 months. At this age, your baby, who is becoming more and more awake, could pull himself out of his angel's nest, which does not have straps. The baby carrier can be used at night, but is mainly intended for daytime travel, for walks or to a workshop.
Some models are equipped with slots so that you can put your baby comfortably in the cosy without having to undress him. When it's time to take it off, the crib opens wide at the front or side, with zips or buttons, to minimise disturbance to your child.
What size should I choose for a baby sleeping bag?
Baby nests are usually available in one size, suitable from birth to 3 months. In any case, your baby should not be too tight. However, the angel's nest should not be too big either, it should remain well wrapped to be comfortable and secure.
If your baby is born in spring or summer, you can still use an angel's nest. In this case, choose a summer angel's nest in a fine, breathable material: cotton muslin or terry cloth.
The sleeping bag, for comfortable nights until 2 years
Your baby is growing and waking up. For a peaceful night's sleep, we recommend putting your baby to sleep in a sleeping bag.
What is a sleeping bag?
Unlike an angel's nest, a sleeping bag is more for the night. It is an overgarment that replaces blankets, which are not recommended for children up to 2 years old. The arms are free, so that he can grab his cuddly toy, his dummy or his thumb.
The bottom of the sleeping bag is more rounded and offers a wider range of movement than the angel's nest. Some sleeping bags have sleeves, sometimes removable. But most of the time they only have straps, possibly buttoned, which makes them easier to put on.
Which sleeping bag should I choose?
There are sleeping bags for both summer and winter. Depending on the temperature in your baby's room, you may want to choose wadding for winter or terry cloth for summer. In all cases, choose a soft and comfortable material such as velvet or cotton.
The sleeping bag is an integral part of your baby's sleep routine and should be comfortable to wear. It should never be too tight, so that your baby can move freely. Finally, it is advisable to buy at least two sleeping bags, so that you always have a clean one available for your child.
