What is a trio pushchair?
The trio pushchair is a combination pushchair that can be used from birth until your child is 3 years old. It consists of a multi-purpose frame to which three different accessories can be attached depending on the age of the child: the carrycot, the shell and the hammock. The latest trio pushchairs are very compact and, although they may seem expensive at the outset, they are a long-term investment.
From birth to 6 months: the carrycot
The carrycot is a secure bassinet that turns the trio pram into a pram. Your baby lies comfortably, just like in a cradle. When you return from a walk, there is no risk of waking your child by removing the carrycot from the frame. He can therefore accompany you on your outings while lying comfortably.
Up to 9 months: the shell acts as a car seat
Up to the age of 9 months, you can easily equip the frame of your pushchair with a shell (or maxy cosy). Fitted with a 5-point harness, it wraps your baby safely in a solid, yet cosy structure. The shell can be used as a car seat when travelling by car, by placing it with its back to the road. You can move it from the car to the frame of the trio pram without disturbing your baby, who may have fallen asleep during the journey. Some models are sold with a base that remains permanently attached in the car, which makes it even easier to handle.
From 6 months: the hammock facing the road
When your baby is sitting up well, it's time for him to discover the world during the ride. A hammock can be placed on the frame, in which your child, from 6 months onwards, can sit comfortably facing the road. With the hammock, your trio pushchair can be transformed into a cane pushchair.
The cane pram, a second age pram
The cane pram (or umbrella pram) is a pram with a hammock seat. It can only be used from the age of 6 months onwards, when your child can sit upright. This way, your baby is facing the road and can see what is going on around him. Of course, the pushchair is equipped with a 5-point harness, so that walks are safe.
Some models also have a reclining backrest to put your baby in a reclining position. This can be a solution on occasion, but the comfort is not the same as in a carrycot, which is designed for this purpose.
Unlike the duo and trio pushchairs, the cane pushchair is not a substitute for a car seat. As you do not have a removable shell to move between the pushchair and the car, you will have to buy a car seat in addition to your pushchair.
The undeniable advantages of the pushchair
- Easy to handle: it is easy to fold, even with one hand;
- Lightweight: it takes up very little space, can be easily stored in the boot of the car and can sometimes even be carried on a shoulder.
Its price is also lower than that of a trio pram, but it is less modular.
