FOOTMUFF: CHOOSING AND FITTING IT IN THE PUSHCHAIR
When you go for a walk with your baby in winter, he or she needs to be well covered to avoid getting cold. And that's precisely the role of the footmuff: this little sleeping bag that can be attached to the pushchair and keeps your little one warm. To find out how to choose the right footmuff and install it in the pushchair, follow the guide!
What is a footmuff?
A footmuff looks like a small sleeping bag, in which you wrap your baby to keep him warm during pram rides.
This childcare accessory is a must-have during the cold season because it is practical, comfortable and safe. The footmuff fits directly onto the pram and avoids the use of blankets that tend to slip off. Your baby will be perfectly wrapped up and still have freedom of movement. Although most models are universal, some footmuffs are specific to a particular pram model, so be sure to check.
Please note : although they both look like a small baby sleeping bag, the footmuff should not be confused with the angel's nest. The latter can be used indoors, unlike the footmuff, or outdoors, but it is less warm than the footmuff and not waterproof.
What are the criteria to consider when choosing a footmuff?
Material :
The materials that make up the footmuff are important. For the inside, choose warm materials such as cotton or soft fleece. The outer fabric should be waterproof, insulating and windproof for rainy and windy rides.
Depending on the season, you will not use the same footmuff. In mid-season, cotton should be preferred. The easiest way is to opt for a footmuff that covers all seasons: it is equipped with several detachable layers that can be removed and added as the seasons change.
Size:
Remember to choose a footmuff that is adapted to your child's size. He should feel comfortable in it, without it being too big so that the air doesn't get through. There are several sizes, from birth to 1 year or from 6 to 36 months. If you want a footmuff that will last for the long term, think about the evolving models that grow with your baby.
Comfort:
The footmuff should be cosy and provide maximum comfort for your baby. This is achieved by the choice of materials on the outside and inside, the thickness of the footmuff, the breathability and the water-repellent properties to stay dry.
Practicality:It must be easy to install and handle. Choose models with a practical zip system and slots for easy fitting of safety harnesses on the pushchair or car seat. Also choose a model that is easy to care for and machine washable.
Compatibility with your pushchair:
Check that the footmuff is compatible with your pushchair before you buy it. Some of them are specific to cane, combination or evolving pushchairs. Ideally, you should find a universal model that can be fitted to all pushchairs.
How do I install the footmuff in the pram?
The installation of the footmuff in the pram is quite simple:
- Unclip all the straps on the pram so that the footmuff can be placed inside the seat;
- Pass the straps through the openings on the back of the footmuff;
- You can then place your baby in the footmuff and fasten it as you would a car seat.
