An essential element from the moment your baby is born, the pram comes in many different models depending on your needs. Before making your choice, take the time to ask yourself the right questions. To find out how to choose the right pushchair, read our advice in this article.
Choosing a pushchair adapted to the age of your child
The age of your child is an important criterion for choosing a stroller. A newborn baby will need to lie down, but as he or she grows, he or she will want to discover the world and sit in the pram.
Firstborn pushchairs
Between 0 and 6 months, a baby needs to lie down completely during walks. There are several models of pushchairs that respect this point:
- the carrycot stroller : this is similar to a pram and allows your baby to lie down, providing great comfort and good sleeping conditions when you are out and about
- a stroller with a birth certificate : the hammock can be fully reclined to accommodate a newborn baby, but it is less comfortable and not very suitable for long walks
- the duo stroller : made up of a shell and a hammock, which are attached to the frame, it can be used from birth to the child's 3rd birthday. The shell will also serve as a car seat, which is practical and economical
- the trio stroller: very complete and progressive, this model of pushchair includes a carrycot, a shell and a hammock to be adapted to the chassis according to the child's age. It's a bigger investment, but it has the advantage of growing with your child.
The second age stroller
Around the age of 6 months your child will start to sit up on his own. You will be able to choose a lighter and more manageable baby pram, also known as a pushchair. Depending on the model, the hammock can be reclined for baby's nap or swivelled to face the road, as on the Cybex Eesy S Twist 2 pushchair. It is also very practical as an extra pushchair when your child is walking but needs to rest.
The double pushchair
If you have twins or children of similar ages, it is worthwhile choosing a double pushchair. It allows two children to be carried next to each other or one behind the other. Some models are compatible with a shell or carrycot.
Choosing the right pushchair for your lifestyle?
Depending on where you live and how you are going to use the pushchair, the choice of model will be different.
If you live in the city
We advise you to choose a compact, light and easy-to-handle pram for walking in small streets, taking public transport or the lift. The BABYZEN YOYO² pram is designed to be comfortable, foldable with one hand and ultra-compact. It is ideal for parents with an urban lifestyle.
You live in the countryside
To get around on stony roads without losing comfort, opt for a very robust all-terrain pushchair. Thanks to its 3 or 4 large wheels and good suspension, it adapts to all types of ground, without ever altering your baby's well-being.
Other important points when choosing a pushchair
- The safety standards NF S 54001 and EN 1888 must appear on the pushchair.
- The pushchair cover should be made of thick, comfortable fabric that can be removed for easy cleaning.
- Think of equipping your pushchair with accessories such as a rain cover, an umbrella, a footmuff to keep baby warm during the winter or a basket to carry the changing bag, a snack or toys.
