Twins ? 2nd child? Our tips for adapting your birth list!
Making a birth list is not always easy, but it is even more complex when it concerns a second child or twins! Should I make one for the second baby? Do I have to take everything in duplicate for the twins? To help you adapt the birth list to either situation, we'll give you some tips!
Adapting your birth list for a second child
People sometimes think that it's not necessary to make a birth list for a second baby, but it's very useful ! Yes, you already have things from your first child, but that doesn't mean you don't need anything. The birth list for a second child is different and we'll give you some tips to make it easier for you.
Take stock of what you already have
Since you already have one child, it is rarely useful to buy everything again for the arrival of the second child. Consider taking stock of what you really need before creating your baby list. Any accessories such as a changing table or a small bathtub can be used for both children. If the gap between the two children is big enough, you can use the cot or high chair again. However, if you have two children close together, it will probably be necessary to double up on these items as your first baby will still be using them. Don't forget to include basics such as dummies and bottles in your list so that you can replenish your stock and start with new products.
Think of the older child
This may seem strange since we're talking about the second child's birth list, but why not take the opportunity to include products for your older child ? For example, you could add a small skateboard that fits on the pushchair and that your child can ride on when they get too tired.
Make a "fun" list
Since you already have a lot of essentials for your second baby, allow yourself to include more "fun" items on your baby list. Decorative objects, accessories or clothes you've fallen in love with, a baby massage workshop...
Making a birth list for twins
Putting together a birth list for twins can quickly become overwhelming! But don't worry, we'll give you some advice.
Don't ask for everything in duplicate
Obviously, for certain items such as a bed, car seat or high chair, you will have to provide everything in duplicate. But having twins doesn't mean that everything on the birth list has to be a double. One bathtub or changing mat is enough, for example.
Don't forget the double stroller
If you were to include only one item on the birth list for twins, it would be the double stroller ! Without one, getting around with your two babies can quickly become an obstacle course. And since it's quite expensive, it's worth putting it on your baby list.
Look out for items sold in sets and accessories designed for twins
To simplify your life and avoid a long birth list, try to look for items sold in sets of 2 or more. This way, in one gift, your loved ones can please both of your children. You can easily find sets of 2 soothers, 2 bibs, 4 nappies... You can also include in your list equipment designed for twins or children who are close to each other: double playpen, XXL play mat, babyphone with an additional transmitter...
