Baby size correspondences: how to understand them?
Are you looking for clothes for your baby, but don't know what size to choose? The best way to find out is to refer to the baby clothing size charts, which are based on different criteria. We explain everything to you, so that you can dress your baby in the right size!
How to understand the baby size chart?
Unsurprisingly, at birth, not all babies wear the same size of clothes because they are not the same weight or size. Some will only weigh 2.5kg while others will already be the size of a 1 month old baby weighing almost 4kg. Relying on the age marked on the label of the garment is therefore not necessarily very judicious. To choose your baby's clothes, you need to take into account his height and weight, but not specifically his age. This may seem a little complicated, but don't worry: the baby clothes size chart is there to guide you.
To help you make sense of it all, we've provided a baby-friendly size chart below:

To find out what size your baby is wearing, simply know your baby's weight and height, and then look at what this corresponds to in the chart. It's the body shape that counts. Example: - If your baby is 58 cm tall and weighs 5.5 kg, you will need to dress him or her in 3 months; - If your baby is 65 cm tall and weighs 7 kg, you will need to choose clothes in 6 months according to the baby size chart.
What about accessories?
There are also size charts for accessories such as hats and shoes. The way it works is similar: you take a measurement and then find out the size of the accessory. Example with hat, cap and bonnet

Please note: The size correspondence table is a precious help, but you should not forget that sizes can vary from one brand and one manufacturer to another. To make sure you don't make a mistake when ordering on our site, Natalys offers a very complete size guide for babies' and children's clothes, but also for socks/tights, hats and caps, as well as mittens and sleeping bags.
How to measure correctly?
Before you use the size chart to buy your baby's clothes, it is important to measure your baby correctly.
- For infants and babies who are not yet able to stand, it is easiest to lay them down to take the measurements. Using a tape measure, measure your baby from the top of the head to the bottom of the feet.
- For older children, measure from the floor to the top of the head, with the back straight against a wall.
- For bonnets or hats, measure around the head at the widest point;
- For shoes and slippers, measure the bottom of the foot from the back of the heel to the tip of the big toe.
Extra tips for choosing clothes that fit your baby
- If you are not sure which size to choose, always choose the larger size: it is important that your baby is comfortable;
- Don't buy too many clothes in advance: you never know how fast your baby will grow and you risk ending up with clothes that he or she will never be able to wear.
